SMICA XC

This fall, our girls ran on the SMICA XC Team, otherwise known as the Cross-Country team of our homeschool association, Shades Mountain Independendent Church Academy. XC was a great experience for our whole family. Last night, we went to the end-of-the-season dinner and enjoyed some great fellowship, good food, and fun pictures and videos. Every student athlete received a special award, and it was a very encouraging evening.

We're thankful for Coach Ande and Mrs. Paula Underwood for their work with the team this year and for the very special evening they planned for everyone last night. Coach Ande prepared a video capturing some of the highlights of the season. Thanks again, Ande and Paula!

Note:  Other video selections will pop up at the end of this one.  We have no control over which video selections are included by youtube.
Please be aware that these are not Smith Family Resources' recommendations.  Thank you!

Answers to Thanksgiving Quiz

We hope you had a thankful day Thursday! Did you take our quiz? If not, click here to take the quiz before you look at the answers below.

1.  Thanksgiving as a national holiday began with the Pilgrims.  True or False

False. The national holiday did not begin with the Pilgrims. In 1777 the Continental Congress declared the first national day of Thanksgiving, following the American victory at Saratoga.

2.  The Pilgrims observed an annual Thanksgiving feast beginning in 1621.  True or False

False. According to most historians, the pilgrims never observed an annual Thanksgiving feast in autumn. In the year 1621, they did celebrate a feast near Plymouth, Massachusetts, following their first harvest. But this feast most people refer to as the first Thanksgiving was never repeated.

3.  Abraham Lincoln was the first U. S. President to proclaim a Thanksgiving holiday.  True or False

False. George Washington became the first president to proclaim a Thanksgiving holiday, when in 1789 he set aside November 26, a Tuesday, as a day of thanksgiving for adoption of the U.S. Constitution.

4.  Who started a campaign in 1846 to make Thanksgiving a holiday celebrating harvests going back to the Pilgrims' feast?

Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of a popular 19th century woman’s magazine called Godey’s Lady’s Book.

5.  Which U. S. President named the last Thursday in November as the day to celebrate Thanksgiving?

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Nov. 26, a Thursday that year. In his proclamation, Lincoln named the last Thursday in the month as the day to celebrate.

6.  Which U. S. President thought the last Thursday was too close to Christmas and mandated the third Thursday in November as the day to celebrate Thanksgiving?

With a few exceptions, Lincoln’s precedent was followed by every subsequent president – until 1939. That year Franklin D. Roosevelt, who thought the last Thursday was too close to Christmas, mandated the third Thursday in November instead.

7.  What country celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October?

Canada

8.  Who said this?  "Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their Joint Committee requested me 'to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanks-giving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.'”

George Washington said this in his Thanksgiving Proclamation on October 3, 1789. Read the entire proclamation here.

9.  Who said this?  "Let us recommit ourselves to that devotion to God and family that has played such an important role in making this a great Nation, and which will be needed as a source of strength if we are to remain a great people."

Ronald Reagan said this in his Thanksgiving Proclamation on November 12, 1981.

10. Who said this?  "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.  This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior."

Paul said this in his letter to Timothy. See 1 Timothy 2:1-3.

"Put a Damper on Bedwetting" by Nancy Webster

This post is excerpted from an article of the same title which appears in Beeyoutiful's Fall/Winter 2012 "cata-zine." Nancy Webster is one of Beeyoutiful's regular researchers and writers, a homeschool mother of eight, and leader of the Southern Middle Tennessee chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation. She is the moderator of Beeyoutiful's health forum, www.MerryHeartMedicine.com, where you can ask questions and learn from others about this topic and many more.

"I'm so glad we've never lived in a place where laundry lines are visible or prohibited, because for 21 years, ours were crowded with more sheets and blankets than clothes. All eight of our children were bedwetters. One child wet the bed until age fourteen, and the youngest age a Webster child got dry was six. I remember being shocked to learn that most children get dry at night about the same time they get dry in the daytime.

"Our child who took the longest to get dry at night also suffered from polyuria (excessive urination) during the daytime. Sometimes he had to pee every 15 minutes. The pediatric urologist had no clue why this happened.

"Then, Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, creator of the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) Diet, taught me they why I'd sought for so long. She contends that enuresis and polyuria are the result of abnormal gut flora. These flora produce a variety of toxins, many of which are excreted via the urine. Toxic urine irritates and inflames the lining of the bladder and urethra, making the bladder unable to hold much.

"This problem sometimes results in chronic urinary tract infections and cystitis if the gut dysbiosis is not addressed. Antibiotics to treat the infections only exacerbate the problem in the long run, even if they ease symptoms for a while, because the antibiotics destroy good bacteria in the digestive system.

"For the sleeping child (or even teen or adult), the irritated bladder may empty without waking the person, because the bladder was never full and so never produced the sensation of needing to urinate. If a gut healing program like the GAPS Diet is instigated, bedwetting will likely worsen (or start) in the first stages as die-off of bad bacteria increases toxin levels in the body making the urine even more problematic for the already irritated bladder. This is why it is important to control die-off using a slow build-up of probiotics and various foods as they are reintroduced on the GAPS Introducion Diet. The GAPS Diet can ultimtely bring complete relif from enuresis polyuria, and chronic urinay tract infections.

"Meanwhile, Dr. McBride recommends the use of alarms, drinking a comfortable amount of water, and temporarily avoiding foods high in salicylates and oxalates, which won't be hard when following the GAPS Intro Diet. She also says to take cranberry supplements to reduce inflammation in the bladder.

"This is where Beeyoutiful's easy-to-swallow Cranberry Power Cleanse vegcaps come to the rescue. They're a combination of cranberry extract with uva ursi. The cranberries contain powerful compounds called proanthocyanidins, which discourage harmful bacteria from clinging to the lining of the urinary tract. The herb uva ursi has long been used for its healing power over urinary tract infections, cystitis, and even kidney stones."

Cranberry Power Cleanse

Beeyoutiful's combination of cranberry extract with uva ursi creates one of the most potent aids for the urinary tract. Cranberries contain powerful compounds called proanthocyanidins (PACs) which discourage harmful bacteria from clinging to the lining of the urinary tract. Cranberry Power Cleanse also contains the herb uva ursi, long used for its healing powers over UTI's, cystitis, and kidney stones.

Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins that can prevent the adhesion of certain bacteria (including E coli) associated with urinary tract infections to the urinary tract wall. The anti-adhesion properties of cranberry may also inhibit the bacteria associated with gum disease and stomach ulcers.

Cranberry extract has become an essential element in the promotion of sound urinary tract health. Beeyoutiful's maximum-potency standardized cranberry extract is naturally rich in powerful compounds called proanthocyanidins (OPCs). These OPCs discourage harmful bacteria from clinging to the lining of the urinary tract. If ignored, these bacteria can lead to the formation of a hostile environment prone to infection and unhealthy bacterial growth.

Aloe Vera: Good for You--Inside and Out!

Aloe vera has been revered since the days of ancient Egypt for its remarkable anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties, as well as for how it helps to reduce inflammation and regenerate cells.

Beeyoutiful's Aloe Vera softgels are freeze-dried, concentrated, and then reconstituted to preserve just the right strength for daily use. Brimming with vitamins, amino acids, and sugars essential to good health, aloe activates your white blood cells to fight viral and bacterial infections and has even been said to combat the invasion of cancer cells.

The primary internal benefit is the way aloe soothes and helps reduce irritation in digestive tracts -- from irritable bowel syndrome to colitis to constipation -- making food and other supplements more bio-available to your body. Aloe also has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels in diabetics by as much as 48%.

The external advantages? Simply break open one of these convenient aloe vera gel caps and spread it on minor burns and sunburns. Apply to Athlete's foot, acne, warts, and cracked, dry skin. Apply to poison ivy, blisters and any other skin or scalp irritation to help reduce the risk of infection and scarring. Aloe Vera Softgels are effective because they stimulate the production of collagen, the substance essential for restoring skin cells. That means aloe even helps smooth out wrinkles!

Vitex with Dong Quai

Vitex is known for its ability to nourish and support the female endocrine system as it regulates estrogen and progesterone levels.

PMS and menstrual problems are all eased by this wonderful herb. Because Vitex helps regulate cycles, you can more accurately calculate the start of your next period. Enhanced with Dong Quai, a Chinese herb known for relieving menopausal symptoms, Beeyoutiful's Vitex addresses these mid-life problems.

Vitex is a vital aid to help re-balance your hormones so you can feel "normal" again. Be sure to give your body a minimum of three cycles and up to a year to soak in and respond to the hormone stabilizing work of Vitex. Because it is safe for long-term use, many women take Vitex for several years in a row if necessary. Caution: Not for women who are pregnant or nursing.

Ultimate Defense

A probiotic replaces the good bacteria in the GI, repopulating the stomach, intestines, and colon with the little workers that properly break down the food you eat. Many of us require a constant influx of good bacteria to combat yeast or to constantly flush intestines in a cleanse state with good bacteria. Ultimate Defense is Beeyoutiful's finest probiotic, designed with embedded predigested food sources for the bacteria. It also contains soil-based organisms that do not necessarily colonize the GI, but help greatly in their passage through. Ultimate Defense is specifically designed to establish complete, lasting colonies of intestinal flora in a world that sterilizes, processes and denaturalizes all food sources.

Ultimate Defense is a combination of 13 different bacteria, fermented greens to feed them as colonies get established and soil based organisms to potentiate the bacterial activity in the intestines. A healthy GI bacterial flora is thought to improve overall health and immune system function.

Red Raspberry Leaves

For centuries, midwives have recommended red raspberry leaf tea to strengthen pelvic and uterine muscles. It's their secret for making labor and delivery more efficient and less stressful.

Now, Beeyoutiful's Red Raspberry Leaves offers all the same benefits in convenient capsules to help you feel better throughout pregnancy. And it's the only capsule form of red raspberry leaf we know of that's formulated entirely from organic components.

Red raspberry leaf is known to tone the uterus, provide an easy-to-assimilate form of calcium, improve the productivity of labor contractions, decrease anxiety and nervousness, enhance sleep, and reduce constipation.

The effectiveness of the red raspberry leaf is not limited to women who are pregnant or delivering babies. It is also great for young girls who need calcium and hormone support as their bodies change rapidly, or women who have hormone imbalances, especially during menopause and after. And at any stage, it can be used for improving the tone of the reproductive system, to support normal hormone levels or just as a good source for bio-available calcium.  The natural calcium content makes Red Raspberry Leaves a valuable supplement for all women who want to combat osteoporosis.

There is no known overuse of Red Raspberry Leaves, and a healthful program includes taking at least four capsules every day. If difficulty sleeping is one of your problems, using more capsules later in the day may help.

Important: While most obstetric health professionals agree red raspberry leaf is beneficial in all stages of pregnancy -- some even believe it reduces the likelihood of miscarriage -- it is best to consult your own midwife, herbalist, physician, or other health professional before using Red Raspberry Leaves if you're pregnant or nursing.

Relief is just around the bend...

If your knees, hips, or other joints are starting to feel a bit of age, you can lessen the pain and increase mobility by taking Beeyoutiful’s vegetarian capsules of Glucosamine with MSM.

Glucosamine is a simple molecule of glucose and glutamine—an amino acid—which contributes to making cartilage, the shock-absorbing gel in joints. As we age (and if we eat a lot of processed foods), our bodies slow down the production of this important substance, resulting in joint soreness.

While commonly prescribed pain killers such as ibuprofen and specific arthritis pain inhibitors can mask the ache of joints rubbing together, they don’t promote healing and can have unwanted side effects, especially with regular use. On the other hand, glucosamine relieves discomfort while it helps to restore—by building, repairing, and maintaining cartilage, tendons and other connective tissues in the body.

For even more significant relief, Beeyoutiful’s supplement adds MSM, a natural sulfur compound, to aid in pain reduction. MSM blocks the transmission of pain signal impulses in nerve fibers, and it alters cross-linked collagen, resulting in less scar tissue and diminished degeneration of the joints. While sulfur is a critical component in maintaining normal bodily functions, most Americans are somewhat deficient in it.

Most supplements of glucosamine are made from shellfish—which can be bad news for folks with seafood allergies. But Beeyoutiful’s is made from fermented, non-genetically modified corn, and it provides superior performance.

No matter what glucosamine supplement you take, make sure it uses Glucosamine Hydrochloride instead of Glucosamine Sulfate. REGENASURE® Glucosamine HCl—the type in Beeyoutiful’s version—contains less salt than some formulations since a number of manufacturers add salt in the form of sodium sulfate or potassium sulfate. That means 83% of Glucosamine HCl is actual glucosamine, compared to only 65% in Glucosamine Sulfate.

For best results, glucosamine should be taken for a longer period of time, not for a “quick fix.” Studies indicate a cumulative effectiveness over a 30-day period. Generally, taking glucosamine does not offer instant relief like that from prescription pain killers because the restorative properties of glucosamine must be given time to work. While each person’s response to supplements is different, it has been shown that 12 weeks of 1000 mg./day of glucosamine can result in joint pain improvement lasting from 6 to 12 weeks, even if glucosamine is discontinued. Such a regimen is viable because glucosamine is considered safe for long-term use.

Never fear the flu

Never fear the flu when you keep Berry Well on hand. Each ingredient in this pleasantly fruity syrup holds its own against flu, colds, and a swarm of bacterial and viral infections. This organic Elderberry Syrup contains Propolis, Raw Honey, and Echinacea.

Berry Well is a practically miraculous combination of the following:

Luscious, organic purple elderberries (first used long ago by Native Americans) that provide anthocyanins. The anti-viral powers of these immune system enhancers attack many strains of influenza A and B -- without the side effects or complications of a flu shot.

Raw honey sweetens the mixture with more than just good taste. It delivers a rich supply of live enzymes required to help body systems fight colds and respiratory infections of all kinds.

Bee propolis and Organic Echinacea root extract -- both considered powerful, natural antibiotics.

Raw apple cider vinegar, a folk remedy celebrated for its use against a long list of ailments, increases your body's alkalinity. (Although today's diets tend to make us more acidic, an alkaline body is safer from cancer and other diseases.) And the potassium in raw vinegar helps cells fight bacteria and viruses.

Take it regularly or when you first feel sick, and stay well with Berry Well.

Welcome back, bacteria

Acidophilus Blast is a combination of acidophilus and bifidus, another crucial good bacteria which enhances the yeast-inhibiting qualities of acidophilus. The "blast" comes from 8 billion live cultures in every capsules.

Antibiotics are a wonderful, life-saving tool. However, they are indiscriminate killers of both bacteria that cause painful and/or life-threatening conditions and good bacteria that populate our gut, aid in food digestion and form the foundation of our immune system. In the wake of this devastation, yeast tends to re-grow very quickly, and the once-happy gut becomes a home for these sugar-eating, hormone-secreting organisms. The standard American diet of processed foods and sugars fuel these interlopers in their quest for domination. Weaning ourselves from the hyper-processed American diet can be difficult.

Many of us have this yeast overgrowth in the GI tract, resulting in intense sugar cravings and many other yeast-related symptoms that require long-term probiotic therapy. However, taking probiotics long-term on a budget can be difficult. For this reason, we have developed the Acidophilus Blast supplement.

A probiotic supplement sends good bacteria into the GI tract, through the stomach, intestines, and colon, billions of little workers that properly break down the food you eat. Many of us require a constant influx of good bacteria because the ones supposed to be in the GI have been displaced or to constantly flush the intestines during a cleanse. Acidophilus has been shown to retard the reproduction of yeast, allowing the body a fighting chance of beating it back and repopulating the GI tract with its natural caretakers. Acidophilus Blast is not the Marines of probiotics like Tummy Tuneup. Instead it is a relatively inexpensive mix of the most important bacteria for GI support.

Garlic

Garlic is commonly used for flus, respiratory viral infections, and sinus infections. Garlic has also been found to contain important constituents for heart and cardiovascular support, as well as for lowering blood pressure.

Although there is no garlic supplement that can take the place of freshly crushed garlic, there are times when the odor and the inconvenience are less than optimal. For those times, we suggest Odorless Garlic, which is simply a high-potency aged garlic extract. Our Odorless Garlic is concentrated 100:1 to maximize scordinin, a bio-active component in garlic thought to be central to its immune-building properties.

Softgels are easy to swallow.  For those who have trouble swallowing pills, the softgels can be chewed.  The garlic taste is very mild and not at all unpleasant, even for small children.  It truly is odorless, too--no bad breath!

A Great Essential Oil Recipe!

We're enjoying experimenting with essential oils! I'd like to share a recipe that we especially love. Yes, I've shared it on the blog before, but it's so good that I want to tell you about it again!

For my daughter's painful, swollen knee, we added 5 drops of peppermint oil and 5 drops of lavender oil to 1 tsp. of sweet almond oil. Her joint pain and swelling were reduced dramatically in just a few days.

Recently, a friend used the oils on a particularly painful joint that had not responded to other treatments tried. Not only was the joint sore, but the surrounding muscles ached from the extra work of compensating for the painful joint. After applying the oils for just a few days, her pain was relieved in the joint as well as in the surrounding muscles.
Try it for yourself!

SuperMom

SuperMom is a high-potency, iron-rich multivitamin, fortified with green superfoods. These multivitamins blend crucial vitamins and minerals to fill nutritional gaps, support good health, and provide energy. SuperMom is for women who need broad spectrum nutritional support while pregnant, nursing and/or keeping up with a busy household, but is beneficial to women in all stages of life.

I stumbled on a wonderful blog post this week. "Healthy State of Mama" by Cindy M. Jones is not only about SuperMom vitamins but about responding to health issues. Cindy has graciously given me permission to share her post here. I hope it encourages you.

Healthy State of Mama
by Cindy M. Jones

"About ten years ago my health took a nose dive. I was plagued with hair loss, insomnia, migraines with vomiting, fatigue, depression and three months of walking pneumonia.

"I really did not think that I would live much longer. In fact I was so concerned that I was not going to make it that I took out a life insurance policy for myself in case I died. I wanted to make sure that my husband and my children would be taken care of if I died.

"I had gone to every type of doctor you could think of and no one seemed to know how to cure my symptoms. After almost a year of desperate attempts to find a cure for all the odd and unexplainable problems that I was having, I began to realize that my problems were essentially not my health as much as it was my spiritual condition.

"Quite honestly I was living in sin. I was living a life that was unacceptable nor glorifying to God. I knew I had to turn my life around. One of the main components I believe that led to so much sickness was unforgiveness. I had blamed too many people for all my problems. Instead of bringing them to God and asking him to remove my bitterness, hatred, rage and rebellion, I wanted to brew in it all and feel sorry for myself.

"I knew I had to make changes or I might quite possibly meet my maker. I realized I had no right to seek my own revenge. As I began my spiritual journey in submitting to God, He sent many other people and media my way that helped.

"It wasn’t long till I was getting on the right track to good health. One of the avenues came in the form of a small ad in a newsletter that I received from No Greater Joy Ministries. It was a new supplemental and vitamin company called Beeyoutiful.com. The vitamin that the magazine raved about was Supermom. This vitamin contained many of the energy supplements that most women’s bodies deplete of after a pregnancy. Because I had tried everything else, I figured “Why not,” and sent for the Supermom vitamin. After about a month of taking the Supermom vitamin, I had more energy, I was now sleeping well, no more hair loss, migraines begin to disappear and I noticed that the depression began to evaporate. I believe God sent those vitamins my way to help me return to a healthy state of Mama.

"The first thing you need to do you if your health is failing is to ask yourself; 'Do I have unforgiveness in my heart? Am I bitter or resentful toward anyone? Have I been rebellious against authority figures in my life such as my parents, husband, church and governmental leaders?'

"God has many ways to deal with us and one of them can be your health. If God chooses to deal with us in this way, there is no where to go. We can't move, we can't run from it, we can't medicate it with anything, all we can do is look up. That is when He has our full attention.

"I’m grateful now for the sickness that I went through. I’m thankful for the year of wondering if I would live or die. It was a year of turning tables for me. It was the year that I finally got serious about my relationship with God.

"Through that season, God brought relationships, products, advice, books, websites, information to various medias that has continued to help me live a pretty decent healthy life.

"Soooo... if you are having problems with your health and you think you need some help...first come to God with a humble attitude. Ask him to deal with your secret sins, unresolved issues, ask him to prod and poke as much as he needs to. Allow him to operate and take out what ever has contaminated any area of your soul.

"Next I would try some of these products. They work for me and hopefully will work for your health and your well-being. May your mind, body and soul be on its road to recovery, to a Healthy State of Mama."

SuperMom is available in tablets and V-caps. The nutritional content is the same (2 tablets = 4 V-caps), but some women find the V-caps easier to swallow.

Berry Well

Berry Well is another of our family favorites previously featured in this blog.

Berry Well is a fruity-tasting syrup containing organic elderberries, raw honey, organic echinacea root extract, organic apple cider vinegar, and bee propolis.

Elderberries provide anthocyanins, immune system enhancers that attack many strains of influenza A and B, without the side effects or complications of a flu shot.

Bee propolis and organic echinacea are both considered powerful natural antibiotics.

We take Berry Well at the first sign of sniffles, and colds and respiratory infections are nipped in the bud. We have even found it helpful when symptoms are caused by allergies. Click here to read one family's story of sinus and allergy problems that were relieved by Berry Well.

Tummy TuneUp

We've mentioned Tummy TuneUp on our blog before, but this product is so good that it's worth mentioning again and again!

Beeyoutiful Tummy TuneUp is a combination of eight different species of beneficial bacteria (including lactobacillus acidophilus) designed to support gastrointestinal health and immune system function.

We have used Tummy TuneUp for many stomach storms and can personally testify to its effectiveness. It's great for indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, and gas pain. It comes in an enterically-coated VCap and is easy to swallow. For those who can't swallow capsules, it can be easily opened so that the powdery contents can be sprinkled into a drink, on to food, or directly into the mouth. (It's best not to add it to anything hot since heat may kill the beneficial bacteria.)

Even babies with colic-y tummies can take Tummy TuneUp! Mommy can apply it before nursing OR add 1/2 of a capsule to baby's bottle OR sprinkle 1/2 of a capsule directly into baby's mouth.

Essential Oils for Tendinitis

Tendinitis is the inflammation, irritation, and swelling of a tendon, which is the fibrous structure that joins muscle to bone. The swelling is uncomfortable which causes pain when the joint is moved. When the joint is a knee, walking is difficult.

The age-old acronym, RICE, helps us remember how to treat it: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.
I'd like to modify the acronym just a bit--RICE-EO!

We recently mixed some essential oils to apply to a swollen knee and were pleasantly surprised at how quickly the swelling was reduced.

Here's our recipe:
Add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil and 5 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 teaspoon of sweet almond essential oil. Apply to the swollen area.

It's a Miracle!

http://smithfamilyresources.com/products/miracle

Miracle Skin Salve is one of our family's favorite Beeyoutiful products! We have used it for chapped lips, skinned knees, sunburns, minor cuts, and even bruises. It really is a miracle!

Our favorite "miracle" involves sunburn. Our family enjoyed an air show in April one year, sitting all day under the hot sun. Our faces, shoulders, and arms were quite burned. We started applying Miracle right away. Within days, we noticed that the areas we treated with Miracle did not peel, while any forgotten area did. My daughter applied Miracle to her face but didn't want to get it in her hair. As a result, the only place she peeled was right around her hairline. Others who were with us that day treated their sunburn with aloe and other moisturizers; they all peeled. Now we keep Miracle on hand all the time. We keep a container in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, one in my purse, and one in our camping first aid kit!

Miracle's primary ingredients are coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, bee propolis, organic plantain leaf, organic comfrey root, organic calendula flowers, and essential oils of lavender and rosemary. Beeyoutiful's suggested uses: "Apply directly to minor skin irritations or injuries. Miracle is designed to promote tissue repair for minor cuts, scrapes, bites, burns and some skin maladies like psoriasis, eczema, cold sores and skin fungi."

Beginner Basics Essential Oil Pack

from www.beeyoutiful.com:

Beeyoutiful's Beginner Basics Essential Oil package is a great way to get started using essential oils, or to add to the collection of an experienced user.

Eucalyptus is one of our favorite all around essential oils because of it's incredible diversity. It is the greatest value of our essential oils and comes in a 4oz container. Many of our Beeyoutiful families run it in a diffuser on a daily basis as it kills dust mites and also can neutralize many airborne illnesses during cold and flu season.

Orange Essential Oil is almost fool-proof to use and its delightful citrus scent invokes feelings of warmth and cleanliness. Some of our Beeyoutiful staff families use Orange essential Oil in the kitchen in the place of orange flavorings, potpourri mixes and home cleaning mixtures.

Lemon Essential Oil has an invigorating and clean smell that makes it a favorite among all purely for its uplifting scent. In addition to the wonderful scent there is a whole host of ailments and maladies it has been used historically to treat. It is another favorite in our Beeyoutiful homes in cleaners and diffusers.

Tea Tree Essential Oil has been called, for good reason, the "first aid kit" of essential oils. It has proven its usefulness in a myriad of ways since our Beeyoutiful Staff families have begun using it. It is well known for its antiseptic and germicidal properties. For the big benefits it delivers, it is still very user-friendly and is a valuable addition to this package.

Lavender Essential Oil is quite possibly the most popular of all essential oils. Its calming and soothing scent makes it the best of all of the essential oils for aromatherapy purposes. It is also one of the few essential oils that can be applied "neat" which simply means that it does not have to be diluted before using it on the skin.

The Beeyoutiful Beginner Basics Essential Oil Pack is available from Beeyoutiful.com.

Sweet Almond Oil

from www.beeyoutiful.com:

Does your skin need some extra TLC? Try a few drops of Beeyoutiful's Sweet Almond Oil! It helps promote clear, soft skin while not clogging your pores. Sweet Almond Oil's rich proteins, glucosides, minerals, and vitamins make it a perfect choice for both a moisturizer and base oil. The use of Sweet Almond Oil dates to ancient times when herbs were added to the oil that was pressed from fresh almonds for use as ointments. This oil is no less useful in modern times.

Sweet Almond Oil can be used alone as a terrific moisturizer, especially on delicate skin. Due to the fact that it won't clog your pores, it also makes an ideal carrier for essential oils. This property makes it well suited for use on the bottom of the feet, which is known for its rapid absorption. This multitasking oil is a must have for both old and young alike!

To use as a carrier oil: Measure out the desired amount of Sweet Almond Oil and add the essential oil into the Sweet Almond Oil. Mix well. Always test for skin sensitivities prior to liberal use. Note: If you plan on mixing a larger amount of oil mixtures that will be used immediately, it is usually preferable to store the mixture in an airtight dark glass container to prevent degradation of the essential oils. Light and air will cause the essential oil to break down very rapidly. And the essential oils will actual break down plastic in many cases, so the use of glass is always recommended.

Topical Uses: A few drops of Sweet Almond Oil may be used to remove make-up from skin. After removing, cleanse skin with warm water. Also, after showering, Almond oil may be rubbed directly on skin to "lock in" moisture. For dry skin, it may be rubbed directly on the area. It is a great cuticle repairer!

We believe Sweet Almond Oil enhances the powerful properties of essential oils, making them more beneficial than ever to our family and friends. With the specialty of increasing absorption so that the beneficial and powerful properties are easier for the body to utilize this pure, beautifully delicate oil is a must have.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

http://smithfamilyresources.com/products/eucalytpusoil

Eucalyptus Oil is said to be anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibiotic, antiviral, diuretic, analgesic, and deodorizing. It has even been used as an insect repellent!

Here's an incomplete list of some practical uses of eucalyptus oil:

* Disinfect a sick room by using eucalyptus oil in a diffuser. Research indicates that when the eucalyptus vapors are diffused in a sick room, germs are less likely to spread to others. You can also add a few drops of the oil to a spray bottle of water and spritz the sick room.

* To get rid of dust mites in your bedding, add a generous amount of eucalyptus oil along with regular detergent to your washing machine load of sheets and mattress pads. Agitate briefly, stop the machine, let everything soak for 30 minutes, and then finish the cycle. Meanwhile, spray diluted eucalyptus oil on a towel, and wipe down the bare mattress. You might also give your pillow a good spritzing and set it in the sunshine to dry, just for good measure.

* For congestion due to colds, coughs, flu, asthma, and sinusitis, sprinkle a few drops onto a damp cloth and hold it over your nose. You may want to try a steam inhalation for deep bronchial relief: Set a stable pan on a sturdy table, fill it with 6-8 cups of boiling water, and add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil. Cover your head and the pan with a bath towel, closing your eyes and keeping your face a safe distance from the hot water. Inhale the steam deeply for about 10 minutes, taking breaks to cool off as needed.

* To help lower a high fever, add 5 drops of eucalyptus oil to 1 quart of lukewarm water. Soak cotton cloths (or even a t-shirt) in the mixture, wrap them around the patient's calves, and cover with dry cloths.

* Mix a drop of eucalyptus oil with a little olive oil and apply to cuts, scrapes, and minor wounds. Antibiotic-resistant staph infections and boils and cold sores often respond well to this simple procedure.

* For muscle aches and joint pain, dilute several drops of eucalyptus with olive oil, and massage the affected area. You may also want to add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your warm bath water for a refreshing soak that helps lessen aching.

* To reduce dandruff, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your shampoo.

Important: Because eucalyptus oil is so potent, it should not be used on infants or small children. Pregnant and nursing mothers should also avoid it since the oil readily soaks through the skin and into the blood stream. Steam inhalation should be avoided by those with heart or central nervous system conditions. Undiluted eucalyptus oil should never be ingested—even small amounts such as a teaspoon's worth are harmful. Although it is safe to use diluted eucalyptus oil as a gargle only, eucalyptus oil should never be swallowed. To avoid skin burns, always dilute eucalyptus oil with a carrier such as olive, almond, or grape-seed oil. If you are taking other drugs, eucalyptus oil may weaken their effect because of how it detoxifies the body.

Beeyoutiful Eucalyptus Essential Oil is 100% Pure & Natural, Aromatherapeutic GC/IR Verified. It contains almost 30% more cineole (the healing component -- also called eucalyptol) than British standards require (USFDA doesn’t set a standard) for medicinal use. This is what packs the punch against germs, congestion and inflammation. And in the presence of cineole, parasites move out of the way, too.

Essential Oils, Part Three

Since learning about natural ways to deal with illness, we have tried to cut back on our use of over-the-counter fever reducers and pain relievers. It seems that when we don't medicate a fever, the sickness runs its course more quickly. One of our children, though, tends to have febrile seizures as her temperature fluctuates. Febrile seizures aren't dangerous, of course, but they are still scary and uncomfortable, so we have continued to medicate her for fever, even though we think we may be prolonging the illness by doing so. I had read about reducing fever with essential oils and was eager to try it for this particular child.

When she began running fever, I mixed 3 drops of lemongrass oil in 1 tsp. of almond oil. I applied the oil to her temples, her wrists and the bottoms of her feet. Within 15 minutes, her fever was down and she was resting comfortably. I reapplied the oil several times over the 2 days that she was sick, and I am happy to report that she had no febrile seizures!!
